Herbal Medicine… is for everyone
Qualifications I have been involved with Herbal Medicine for many years as an enthusiast, and now having graduated with a first class degree in Herbal Medicine in 2007, I have a contemporary and vibrant herbal practice. I am a member of The National Institute of Medical Herbalists www.nimh.org.uk
Harmonious Transformation I am continually updating my practice with new research and ideas from different medical traditions and disciplines. My treatment style has many strands, marrying the traditions of Western, American Indian, Chinese and Ayurvedic herbalism with current medical research. This approach creates a healing experience through which a person can not only remedy their symptoms, but also gain the strength to release unbeneficial behaviour patterns and attitudes. This allows room for harmonious transformation.
Women's Health Although Herbal Medicine can be used to treat any condition, I have particular expertise in treating women’s conditions. I offer a service that takes care of a woman from pre-conception to birth and into post-natal care. Working with women to go through the menopause naturally, is also part of my repertoire.
I am also available to take groups or individuals on herbal walks, to identify herbs and share the teachings from the plants. I am keen to empower people to learn which herbs can help them, from their own environment. I use herbs from all over the world, however, I manufacture many of my medicines from locally sourced herbs as I believe this has the most beneficial effect and is better for the environment.
What you can expect. The first consultation takes one hour; I will take a detailed medical history, covering not only your current complaint and medications, but also your diet and lifestyle. Physical examinations may be useful to carry out. I will make a diagnosis and if necessary, make a referral. An individually designed herbal prescription is then formulated.
The Prescription Typically, your prescription will be a mixture of herbal tinctures. This mixture is usually taken in teaspoonful doses in hot water up to three times per day. Children are given reduced doses. Herb teas, tablets or ointments may also be prescribed. Follow ups last half an hour. After your first consultation, it is beneficial for you to return after two weeks, so we can see how the medicines are working for you. After that, monthly consultations usually suffice. A course of treatment, on average, takes around 3 months. |
